Wendley " Bert" Kekauoha: Home
ALOHA! It's 3:30 a.m.(HST) Sunday, February 5. I'm at my sister's house in Waimanalo. Me and the wife stayed over after attending the 50th wedding anniversary of my cousins Cliff and Jill Kanaeiakala. We flew in yesterday afternoon and was picked up at the airport by my neice and driven to Waimanalo. We waited for my sister to get off of work and we, me Linda.my sister and her sons went to the party. Upon arrival we went to congratulate Jill and Cliff. I think he was surprised to see us but he thanked us both for coming. We also said hello to their daughter, Nanea. It was a mini reunion of sorts because I got to see his brothers, Wayne and Darwin. I hadn't seen either one since we we're part of the same band back in the 70's. I also saw their brother, Greg, whom I had seen two years ago when he was playing in Waikiki as part of the group Imai and Friends. I saw my cousin Ben, his wife, Karen and their daughter. We hadn't seen each other in about thirty years. It was great to see all of them. I spoke to Ben's daughter for a little bit because she is looking to record a CD in about two months. She is trying to put together twenty songs, some of which she'll write others that will be covers. I told her about my experience and wished her the best on her project. Talking with my cousins was just trying to catch up with the news of thirty years which is impossible so we tried to concentrate on what was happening now. Most of it was good but there are always things that one just has to deal with like health issues. Still we were happy to see and share the moment.
Moments there were a lot of moments at this celebration for me one getting a chance to catch up with my cousins, (2)spending time with my wife, sister, neice and nephews. (3)After the blessing was given the guests began singing "The Doxology" in Hawaiian. It was a beautiful acappela rendition. It just gave me "chicken skin." (4)The children and grandchildren of Cliff and Jill produced a show for their them. It started with a slide show of how Cliff and Jill met, their wedding, the children and the grand children. During the slide show there were a lot of oohs, ahhs and laughs. Then the grand children did a skit recalling something that Cliff and Jill did. One would call out "where are you little star?" and one would answer "Here I am" and run to the stage. It was explained that this is what Cliff would call out and Jill would reply. I saw the Jill's reaction when the grandchildren started. It was one of surprise and then the tears of joy started. It was amazing. The older boys did a dance rendition to the Temptations "Get Ready". The older girls did a hula about Waianae. There was another hula with a grandson and grand daughter danced. Then Nanea read a tribute to her mom and dad by the end there was not a dry eye in the house. And for a final tribute the two daughters, Nanea and Jody danced a beautiful hula for their parents. It was a special moment of love, honor and respect of children for their parents. I was glad to share in the celebration.

I've heard that my wife's yoga class enjoyed the CD and I know drivers who were stuck in traffic jams said it was a great "stress reliever". If someone in your life needs calming take two "ALA MOANA'S' and call me in the morning. . . Try it and see!
