Wendley "Bert" Kekauoha
We were at a Makaha Son's concert in Virginia Beach on July 30th. It was a fantastic concert. I was on cloud nine from the opening number through and including the second "hana hou". When then did ALOHA OE and HAWAII ALOHA and the entire audience stood and sang it was "chicken skin".

After the concert a number of us went to a local Chinese restaurant to get something to eat before going back to the place we were staying and bed. When we were ready to leave we all went around the room congratulating everyone and saying goodnight. It was during this time that Jojo asked if I would write her a song. I told her I would. I didn't know if she was kidding and at one a.m. I thought she wants a song I'll do a song. I started thinking about it later that morning and by Saturday evening I had a first draft. Over the next several days I worked on the lyrics. I then had to find a melody. The one you hear is the one I decided on after trying a number of arrangements. Jojo this is for you. If there is something you don't like let me know and we can revise it one more time. Aloha Bert
Music fills the air as she glides into view
A vision of loveliness in a pretty holoku
A warm,friendly smile . . . hips gently sway
Hands tell the story . . . it's the hula way

Chorus: Dance hula maiden . . . tell us a story
With style and grace
Of love and all of it's glory
Simply remind us of who we are
Dance . . . HULA MAIDEN . . . Dance

We're far from home sharing values we hold dear
Your hula brings a smile . . . and a happy tear
Returns us back to a simpler place and time
Land of gentle people, where Aloha always shines CHORUS

We come together to share and reminisce
Joys of island living that we love and we miss
Even though we're far from our island home
With your hula we remember. we're never alone. CHORUS
